June-Sung Park, hailing from Seoul, South Korea, is undeniably one of the most promising conductors of his generation.
Having received critical acclaim in his homeland, June-Sung made a successful debut at the Symphonic Festival Soul Arts Center in 2021. Furthermore, he actively delves into the operatic repertoire, having conducted Humperdinck's 'Hänsel und Gretel' in 2022 and slated to conduct Mozart's 'Le nozze di Figaro' at the Daegu Opera House in 2023.
Elsewhere, highlights in previous seasons have included successful collaborations with Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Daegu Symphony Orchestra, Red Note Ensemble, Denver Philharmonic, Volkstheater Rostock, Gunpo Prime Philharmonic Orchestra.
Soloist collaborations have included renowned solists such as Narek Hakhnazaryan, Jonathan Swenson, Sangyoung Kim, Sung Kwon You (Principal Bassoon at the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin).
His exceptional talent has been recognized through numerous accolades and accomplishments. Notably, he emerged victorious as the first prize winner of the prestigious Arthur Nikisch Conducting Competition in 2020. In addition, he claimed the first prize at the Aram Khachaturian International Conducting Competition in 2016, accompanied by three special prizes, including the Orchestra Award, Interpretation Prize, and the opportunity to perform with the Kaunas City Symphony Orchestra. Furthermore, his outstanding abilities were rewarded at the 6th International Conducting Competition Jeunesses Musicales Bucharest in 2015.
June-Sung Park's journey towards excellence in conducting began in his native South Korea. He was handpicked as one of only six exceptional young talents to participate in Myung-Whun Chung's masterclass with the revered Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
He also actively participated in masterclasses with renowned conductors Martyn Brabbins, Kristjan Järvi, and prestigious orchestras such as the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (BBC NOW) and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO).
From 2017 to 2019, June-Sung served as the Assistant Conductor to the esteemed Thomas Dausgaard at the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, simultaneously holding the Leverhulme Conducting Fellowship at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. His experiences included assisting Dausgaard at prominent events such as the BBC Proms and the Edinburgh International Festival. Additionally, he took on the role of Assistant Conductor at the Grange Park Opera in 2019.
To further refine his craft, June-Sung Park has participated in various prestigious festivals and workshops. These include the Incheon Music Festival in South Korea, where he studied under the tutelage of Myung-Whun Chung, and the esteemed Pärnu Music Festival, where he honed his skills under the guidance of Paavo Järvi. His compelling performance at the latter was hailed as "outstanding" by the esteemed British arts journal, "The Arts Desk."
June-Sung Park's dedication to his craft is evident in his extensive studies. He pursued orchestra conducting at both the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin. Notably, he had the privilege of studying under the experienced baton of Daniele Gatti at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Italy. Gatti's recognition of his exceptional talent saw June-Sung awarded a scholarship and bestowed with the esteemed 'Diploma di Merito' as the most outstanding participant.
